The most popular role-playing series comes to the Playstationand does not disappoint.

If you have never heard of the Final Fantasy series then you have been missing out. The hugely popular series has come to the PSX and has become the biggest selling PSX game of all time. After only a few minutes of playing, one can see why.

You assume the role of Cloud, and set off to save the world . As you go along, you will meet several people who will join you in your quest (some reluctantly). Your team can be made up of any 3 characters at a time, with a total of 8 characters to choose from.

Saving the world is not a walk in the park. The world of FF7 is huge and fun to explore. With many locations that will surprise and leave you spellbound. The main story centers around a huge meteor that is about to smash into your semi-peaceful world. But the worlds of the FF7 series are never so cut and dry. The forces of good, evil and those in the gray area all play a part. The story of any FF adventure is strong point. It's complex and takes many a twist along the way.

The game play has three basic modes. One in which you walk around, the other in which you explore the geographical areas of the world, and battle mode. All the interfaces are very similar to the other FF adventures and even someone new to the series will pick them up very fast.

FF7's main appeal is to people who like a game that can take a few weeks to a few months to play and finish.

Cloud gets into some deep doodoo

Sephiroth: Not a nice man

The key to enjoying FF7 is not to rush through it. The game is designed to be lived in and explored. One example is the mini games that litter the game. Some of these take the form of arcade games, snowboarding or even boxing games. Small little touches that other games do not have make this game worth spending time with.

If you knew exactly what to do, you could finish the game in about 60 to 80 hours, but I suggest that you let the game move you along at its own pace. It will be much more rewarding. I took my time and spent over three months playing the game and I found it much more fun.

One caveat is, once you are done, you are done. Playing it again is pretty much  pointless unless you would like to sit through the whole thing again.

Some of the highlights of the game are the amazing magic system that includes something called "summoning" and the fully rendered cut scenes that help move along the action.

The work that SquareSoft put into this game shows. 4 years of development time goes a long way. A world comes on 3 little black disks, full of people who live, die, fall in love, betray each other and bring out the best in the worst.

If your looking for some quality time to spend alone with your PSX this is the game to do it with. Say goodbye to friends and loved ones, Midgar is calling.
