LADYDRAGON.COM - TOMBA! 2

At the 1999 E3 we asked PlayStation which game would be most promising from them. Many games were mentioned except Tomba! 2 unfortunately. Developed by Whoopee Camp Co. Ltd. and published by Sony this game is a mix of of Ape Escape and Star Ocean. An RPG game mixed with a platform type.

Tomba! 2 continues the story of the first one. It is the story of a wild young jungle boy who used to live in a peaceful place until his girlfriend Tabby was kidnapped by bad pigs.

Tomba! 2 is actually a blend of Star Ocean, where they use the same music style and dialog box, Spyro where the enemy is pigs instead of sheep, Ape Escape where you have the same type of movement from the main character with his weapon, and Tarzan because the game has 3D graphics but the gameplay is a mix of 2-3D.

Through out the game you will play as Tomba who is a particular character that has pink hair and looks a bit like a Troll. Tomba has colorful arrows on top of his head which will indicate all the directions that are possible for you to take.

Tomba has different weapons and abilities to help him out.

At the start of the game you only have access to the Black Jack and the Hammer weapons but more will come available to you, like the Boomerang, as you progress in the game. Over 150 new weapons and items can be discovered.

A very unique and original feature is the fact that Tomba can wear different magical suits like the Squirrel and the Kokka suits.

You also will be able to earn AP - Adventure Points - which will allow you to do special tasks like opening locked treasures.

Tomba the main character unfortunately does not speak and the sound track can be repetitive at times. And also you can only play by yourself, no multiplayer.

But the main thing that will catch your interest in this game is the originality of it. Like the fact that Tomba can wear different clothing like Superman and Batman does. The Squirrel suit will disguise Tomba as a Squirrel which permits him to fly openly in the air. You will be allowed to replay some levels by getting to a special feather in the game which will travel you in time.

The gameplay also is quite fun because you need to perform some a sequence of tasks in order to accomplish small goals so you can progress. At one point there is a fire you need to put out so you must find the bucket, jump on a lever get the water put your squirrel suit climb on top of a ladder to get on top of the next building of the one on fire fly down give the water to the character there screaming in distress. He goes in with the bucket of water and says to you I need more, then you go again. It will make you feel like real a hero. After the fire is put out you will receive a special item that will allow you to pass other missions.

Although you can only play by yourself, Tomba! 2 The Evil Swine Return is a very original title that will give you many hours of fun.
