Be prepare to gather your troops and to attack the enemy

In 1995, a new strategy game came out for the computer and was going to make fury of excitement: Command & Conquer. Recently, the developer Westwood and the publisher Nintendo released this famous success for N64 this time. In a near future, two groups fight to dominate the other, the GDI which is a group formed by the United Nations, and the NOD, groups which have existed for thousands of years according to stories. You must choose your clan and direct the soldiers of your group to overcome the enemy.

This game is the same kind as its predecessor from computer. You must choose one of the 2 clans, the NOD or the GDI to conquer the territories of the other clan. Each group has its own weapons and technologies. You, you play some kind of commander who directs all the operations of the soldiers on the ground. You can build buildings to be able to involve more soldiers or to build more attack vehicles. As you advance through more than 50 missions, you will be able to build more powerful weapons, from the terrible nuclear bomb for the NOD or to the ionic impulse firing from a satellite for the GDI. You can also save your game while doing a mission and continue it later.

You must build your base before an attack

Destroy everything you see

This game greatly resembles its predecessor for the computer except that the levels are different, perhaps that some will not find enough changes to try it. The game proceeds very quickly at the beginning of the missions when you have only few units and tends to slow down a lot when you have a large base with dozens of soldiers. You can't play in a multi player mode and this would have been much more amusing.

To see the title of the game, you surely think of the old 2D graphics of 1995. But it is not that, the graphics of this game were entirely remade in 3D and if you have the expansion pak, you will be able to play in high resolution mode. The control was also remade for N64 and they succeeded very well, especially for the C buttons which are used for to select a group quickly. From the sound of the soldier who dies, to the briefs before each mission and with the excellent calm music, the sounds of the game are extraordinary. The possibility of saving while playing is very useful because sometimes, the missions can be very long.

For a game which came out for the first time 4 years ago for computer, Command & Conquer is a success and they adapted it very well for N64. Certainly, some people will not find enough changes but with its new levels and its better graphics, Command & Conquer really surpassed our expectations.
