The first pokemon game for N64 is a special one

Since the first Pokémon (it means pocket monsters) game came out for the game boy in Japan 3 years ago, it is the madness for these little monsters. Following the success of the two versions of the gameboy games, a multitude of products deriving from this game were born: television show, dolls, backsack and even a card game created by those who have create the popular game Magic: The Gathering.

Now, it is the turn of Nintendo 64 to know this madness with the new game Pokémon Snap. This game, developed by HAL Laboratories and Published by Nintendo, was supposed, originaly, to come out for the 64DD. But since, times has changed and now, this game is on N64. You are Todd, and your goal in this game is very orginal, we could even say unique, it is to photograph the pokémon on an island while beeig on rails and to succeed in finding Mew, a very rare special pokémon.

This game has only one mode, and it is the 1 player mode but you can nevertheless amuse yourself with your friends while trying to find and photograph the pokémon which is worth the most point. The points obtained for your pictures depend on several factors: size of the pokemon in the picture, if the pokemon looks at you or not, if it is well centered, if it is making a special movement and if there is more than one pokémons in the picture.

When you start, you have only your camera at your disposal but, as you advanced in the 7 worlds of the game, you find objects to help you to attract pokémons as example you will be able to play music with the pokéflute for attracting the rare pokémon. But one of the best innovations of this game it is that you can make stickers of your pictures of your favorite pokémons. And yes, you understood me well! You must initially bring your cartridge in a Blockbuster and then you will be able

to print your pictures in a machine especially designed for that. You can also save up to 60 pictures which are worth the most points and you can make an album with these pictures.

The big problem of this game is that the lifespan is not very long: after a few hours, you will have easily find around fifty pokémons and even if can remake photographs to improve your score, the game rather quickly becomes repetitive. And because this game does not offer a multiplayer mode, you can't really spend hours to amuse yourself with your friends. Truths fans of pokémon could be disappointed that there are only 62 of the 151 pokémons that we can find in the 2 versions of the game boy.

The concept of this game is most original that I never saw and this game is different of the games " I shoot everything that move". In this game, it is rather " I photographs everything that move"! The sounds are drawn directly from the televised series, and are thus excellent for this game. There are several objects to be find to be able to attract rare pokémon so this game is not as simple as it appear. The initiative of Blockbuster and Nintendo for making stickers with your best pictures is another proof of the original ideas of Nintendo.

Pokémon Snap is the first game for N64 which is based on pokémons and the purpose of which is to photograph them. In spite of the lack of a multiplayer mode, you will still be able to amuse yourself with your friends to photograph the pokémon being worth the most point. And, if you are a fan of pokémon, and that you have pass through this game, all you have to do is wait for the arrival of Pokémon stadium, which should come out soon.
