  Extermination

Developed by Deep Space who are the creator of MegaMan, Ghouls and Ghost, Tomba and published by Sony, Extermination is an action-thriller where you have to use some "on-the-fly" decision making and strategic survival tactics to outlast and defeat a deadly virus.

You are part of the RECON Team Red Light that will arrive in a C-17 E air Transport at the United States top-secret facility called Fort Stewart situated in of the coldest and harshest environment on Earth, the continent of Antarctica.

The date is now December 24, 2005, 3 days ago, Fort Stewart dispatched a distress signal and there has been no more contact with the base since then.

Your mission is to assess the situation, restore the facility to operating condition, and identify and rescue any survivors.

You will play the role of Dennis Riley an expert in Special Forces operations and numerous weapons. Dennis is equipped with a Knife that has unlimited use and a Special Purpose Rifle 4 (SPR4) Assault Rifle that can be customize with parts like the U.R.S. Cover, the Tactical Grip Unit, the Shotgun Unit and the Zoom Scope Mount.

It can also target enemies with  a first and third person view. In order to make it has real as possible, Deep Space collaborated with a weapons expert, Ichiro Nagata who is a writer and photographer for Combat Magazine.

Dennis can perform a variety of actions like jumping, climbing, swinging, rolling, evading attacks, crawling into vents, and shaking off enemies. He can also collect items like maps, files, memos plus healing items like the Recovery Units, the Booster Shots and the Medical Treatment System (MTS).

There is equipment that you will be able to use during your game like the Terminal to save your game, the Battery Recharger to charge your Battery Pack and the Ammo Depot replenish your supply of bullet for the SPR4 Assault Riffle.

At all time you will be able to access a screen where you can see the capacity and the current power of your Battery Pack, your SPR4 status with how many ammunitions are remaining, your current health level, the current infection level of your body and with the Navigator you can access your Map, SPR4 and database.

Unfortunatly the game has only a single mode there is no multiplayer and no cooperative mode plus the game is short. It would of been fun and would have give the game more depth.

But the graphics are nice, specialy the cinematics and the fluidly animated creatures can surprise you at time since they are moving fast and can jump on you an infect you with the virus.

Extermination might remind you a bit of Syphon Filter but needs to be refine some more in order to really stands out among other games.
