Learn the alphabet with Atoz and the Grannies!

Kutoka, a Montréal based company, has worked hard to bring us a game to help your children learn the alphabet in a fun way, and they succeeded very well with their game called,
"Cyber Grannies".

Cyber Grannies does not require any installation, the game runs from the CD as long as you have have QuickTime Viewer already installed. If not, don't worry, it will install it for you.

The game starts by introduction of the kangaroo Atoz, who will guide you and bring you to each of the Grannies' world. In total you have 26 Grannies to visit. Each has different name and profession, with a very unique world that of course begins with the letter you have chosen.

At the begining you see all the 26 letters on blocks where Atoz the kangoroo explains to you how the game works. When you pick a letter you will meet a Grannie that will talk to you. She will tell you her name and profession and say that if you need help, ring the bell and she will come back to help you out. Then she leaves the room to let you learn and explore everything by yourself.

Each alphabet world has an activity that has 2 levels of difficulty based on a theme and and a skill to learn that has to do with the letter you have chosen. Like if you pick the letter A the theme will be Artist and you will learn how to color different pictures like an ant or if you pick the letter F the theme will be Farm and you you have to solve a maze with animals. The worlds are well designed with all sorts of objects and animals that become animated when you click on them.

"Granny Zelda the zoo keeper"

"Atoz the Kangaroo!"

After the animation, a voice will prononce the word so you can hear the precise pronunciation. Also if you don't know what it is, click on the letter at the bottom and it will explain briefly to you what it is, like a Zebra is a horse white with black stripes.

If you need assistance to find objects or the activity, you have a bell to click on, and the Granny will come out and give you a hint on what to do or look at.

Each world has a door or a gate, when you click on it the door will open and Atoz the kangoroo will come to give you a choice between going back to the main menu or showing you the next letter that follows, like if you are at E it will show you the letter F (see the picture).

The only thing missing is that you have practically have no sound besides the voice talking. It can be become boring to hear nothing in the background, it would have been nice to have different music in the background while you play.

But besides the lack of sound, this game is very complete, the entire game has over 450 words to learn and also many skills like counting and memorizing. All is done in nice 3D graphics.

Cyber Grannies has a lot to offer. Not only it will attract the attention of your child, but they will have the chance to learn how to spell, pronounce words, and even learn different skills. Everything is done in a very original and entertaining way.
