Lucas Arts Archive VOL. IV

Nothin' but StarWars

Lucas arts is smart.  They like many other industry leaders know what to do with games that are well past their sell by date.  They package em up into a bundle and sell em.

The latest in this line of collections is Lucas Arts Vol IV.  It's packed with some stuff you have seen before and some stuff you have not.

You get 4 full games in all and a few "special" additions.  The full games are X-wing, Dark Forces, Yoda Stories and Tie Fighter.  People who played these games in the past will be happy to know that all the flight games now come with 3D acceleration.  A nice bonus.

Dark Forces however is still what is was in 1995 and looking very tired by today's FPS standards.

Some of  other CDs (you get a total of 5) include Jedi Knight special edition and Mysteries of the Sith special edition.

What makes these a special edition is they only contain 3 levels on each CD.  Kind of lame to be honest.  They are nothing more than 3 level demos.  They give you and idea of the gameplay but

leave you wanting more.

You also get Yoda Stories and having never played the game before I was bemused to see it is nothing more than a "cute" Final Fantasy clone with half the fun and tiny little graphics. The game is fun and a good way to waste free time at work but real gamers will get bored, and fast.

You also get another "special" version of the upcoming Lucas Arts CD Behind the Magic: The Vehicles.  While interesting it is really only for the true and hardcore StarWars fan.

The including of demos in a large package like this is a good idea but it makes the package seem bigger than it really is.

The package is a good deal if your looking for some joystick flying fun with all the X-wing/Tie-Fighter games but the other games offered are either too old or too weak to offer any lasting fun.

This will be a great gift for all those Star Wars fans on your list for x-mass this year.
