Build and manage your city as a Mayor!

Maxis brought us SimCity in 1989 then SimCity 2000 in 1993 and now comes SimCity 3000, the latest in urban development.

SimCity 3000 is exactly what the name implies, you are the mayor of a city and you decide everything from building the train station to the removal of the garbage.

When you begin you have the option to start from scratch or use lands from different main cities in the world or pre-designed city structures. If you choose a new City, the game will give you an open area where you can start building your city, you can accept it or change to an other. You then have all the tools that you need placed on your right and at the bottom of your screen to start building.

There are three zones you need to build in order to make your city work; Residential, Commercial and Industrial. You also need to make them connected by using different transportation like trains, highways and subways. Every time you build, you need to think carefully because if you build something too far away or too much of it, they won't use it and it will do nothing for you beside waste your money.

While you build your city you will get some feedback from your advisors, petitioners and neighbors. The advisors tell you the impact of what you are doing at the moment like if you cut down your fire department budget the advisor will tell you that it might not have enough resources in case of a big fire.

Petitioners and neighbors will complain or offer you different deals like buying your extra power supply then it is up to you to ignore or make a deal with them.

You can build a city from the ground up with all these tools. After the road you build the power supply, police and fire department, make sure you have water supply, and that you take care of the garbage. Then your city is ready to come alive.

You have a device called the Simulation Speed Control that when you activate you will see the date and months going by. After a few months you see the sims who are your citizens move in, bringing your city alive.

" Zoom in the see your sims walking on the street."

" Put Big Ben in the middle of your city."

You can even zoom in to them and see them walk on the street you created for them.

Now you start managing your city to see if what you did and are doing is the right thing still. You have an indicator to know which zone you need more or less and you have also a ticker that runs different information that you need to know, like your bus stops are useless, the sims are not using it because they are too far to walk to, then you can go build new one that are not as far too correct to situation and demolish the old one.

As the time passes by you will have to make a lot of decision to make sure your city runs properly so consult your advisors if you need help.

You can also create your own disasters if you like trouble you can create fires, riots, tornados even UFO Aliens.

SimCity 3000 is very similar to SimCity 2000. It is a bit disappointing that there is not enough difference between the two. You have also a feature where you can build landmarks like The Sphinx in Egypt and the CN tower in Toronto, but they don't do anything in your gameplay unfortunately, they are just very nice to look at. The advisors can be a bit fast and extreme like telling you they need more money for the road then the next minute telling you that they have plenty of roads.

SimCity 3000 has some great graphics and a lot more land to build on, four times bigger than SimCity 2000. When you build your city you have everything you need clearly explain to you in the interface. You can even upload your saved games from SimCity 2000. The background music and sounds go quite well with what you are doing if you create a riot you will hear them yelling.

SimCity 3000 has a lot a features that offers a great city simulation, although quite similar to the 2000 version the graphics are much better and you have more land to build on. SimCity 3000 will surely make city simulation lovers quite happy since it is still the best around.
