X-Wing Alliance

13/04/99

Do you have what it takes to be the next Han Solo ?

Welcome to the most recent space simulator from LucasArt (publisher) and Totally Games (developer). X-Wing Alliance is the last game based on episodes 4, 5 and 6 that will be produced for a cartain time. LucasArt has decided to put all their energy in the episodes 1, 2 and 3. So here is your last chance to live your childhood dreams with Luke, Princes Leia and Han.

In X-Wing Alliance, you play the role of a character named Ace Azzemeen, the youngest member of a family of merchants. You see, your family has some problems with another great family of merchants, the Viraxo. Furthermore, your big brother has decided to secretly help the Rebels. This, of course, is not helping your cause at all to the eyes of the Empire. So here you are, for the first time, aboard a cargo ship from the same line of the Millenium Falcon where you must prove yourself.

The story behind the Azzemeen family is really excellent and you will soon be plunged in an adventure worthy of a detective novel.

The game looks alot like the other space simulators from LucasArt. The keyboard commands as well as the interface are the same as before, so if you are a veteran of the serie you will have no problem to learn the game. For the others,

"The renowned Millenium Falcon"

"A rebel supply base"

I advise you to always keep the command sheet next to the computer screen, she is very useful. There are also a few new commands. The "G" key lets you enter the main deck of your ship (like the first Star Wars movie) to destroy the Tie Fighters.

Even though I loved the game, some things were a bit deceiving. The fact that you cannot save while you are doing a mission can be frustrating some times, especially when you die just before the end of the mission meaning you will have to restart from scratch. The graphics are. by far, the best ones in the whole serie but if you played other eye-popping space simulations before, you may find the X-Wing Alliance universe a bit old.

Like in all the LucasArt games, the music and the sounds are unbelievable and the voices of the actors reflect the intensity of the moment.

With X-Wing Alliance, LucasArt has wanted to gratify the fans of the serie with a fantastic game(with more than 50 missions!) that will let you reach the full extension of your phantasms, meaning being able to pilot the legendary Millenium Falcon to the heart of the Death Star. So what are you waiting to get into the adventure.. and may the Force be with you !
