Gran Turismo 3 A-spec

Developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony, Gran Turismo 3 A- spec was originally schedule to be release early this winter but got push back to this summer in order to make sure that they would but a high quality game on the market.

Wise move on their part since Gran Turismo 3 A-spec was released on July 10, Sony shipped over 1 million units in their initial shipment breaking all internal production records because of the unprecedented demand for it. Worldwide sales for Gran Turismo which released in May 98 was over 10 million and for Gran Turismo 2 over more then 5 million since December 1999.

In the main menu there is 2 main mode the Arcade and the Simulation plus other options like the Replay Theater, the Game Screen and Control and the Skip Barber Strategy.

The Simulation mode is the main Mode. You will begin the game with a certain amount of Credit meaning your money in order to buy yourself a car and purchase upgrades even an oil change. Then you will have access to a limited amount of races because most races require licenses drivers. So you need to go in the Drivers Licenses and complete a series of tests in order to earn a License. As you race you will earn more money to buy a better car but you need to check the type of cars that the race requires because most races have vehicles limitation.

In the Arcade Mode you can then select how you want to play it. Your choices are Single Race, Time Trial, Free Run, 2 Player Battle and the i.Link mode where you can link more then one PlayStation 2 to allow up to 6 players to race against each other.

There is also a Clear Status option where you can track your progress and the Load Garage is where you can load cars that you have earned in the Simulation mode.

The game features 19 tracks plus 2 new ones the Tokyo R246 and the Côte d' Azur in Monte Carlo. Now you can drive nearly 80% the tracks in reverse mode as well which delivers almost 38 tracks in total.

As for the cars over 160 vehicles are available from 37 worldwide manufacturers like the 2000 Vanquish from Aston Martin, the 2000 RUF 3400S from RUF and the 1967 Cobra from Shelby.

The first element that will cached your attention is how well the graphics are done taking full advantage of the Emotion Engine. 4 000 polygons per vehicle captures exceptional details like the disc brakes behind the wheel, the interior of the dash board and the reflection of the lights on the car are fabulous to watch specially on a black car. Not only the cars are well done but the surrounding, the environment and the weather-conditions like during the day if you look at a car racing in front of you and it is very warm you will see the heat effect on top of the car like you do in real life when the cars or the asphalt is very warm.

Polyphony Digital traveled more then 6 months to race tracks around the world like Darlington Raceway in England, Laguna Sega Raceway in California, Motegi in Japan and Monte Carlo in Monaco to record the true sounds of the cars that is why they all have their unique sounds.

The soundtrack has songs from over 20 artists like Stone Free from Jimi Hendrix, Turbo Lover of Judas, Priest, Kickstart My Heart from Mötley CrÜe, Determination from Raekwon and original songs like Mirage and Obscure from Daiki Kasho.

In order to enhance your driving experience with realism Polyphony and Sony have work together with Logitech in order to bring us the first-ever Force Feedback wheel to use for the PlayStation 2, The Logitech GT Force.

Polyphony Digital has done a tremendous job in order to bring us the most realistic Racing Simulation for the PlayStation 2 and Gran Turismo 3 A- spec has also a great Arcade mode for those who prefer just a good driving experience with fabulous cars.
