LADYDRAGON.COM - Shinobi

Developed and published by Sega, Shinobi started in the arcade in 1987 and now you can enjoy the latest version of this series on the PlayStation 2. This Shinobi is a fast pace action ninja game where you play as Hotsuma from the Ninja organization called the Oboro Clan.

After a massive earthquake struck Tokyo, a mysterious Golden Palace appeared in the center of the city. then a sorcerer appeared as well who summoned hellspawn to wreak havoc upon the city. With the Oboro Clan ravaged and Tokyo on the verge of collapse, Hotsuma will go fight the enemies to avenge the death of his clan and will try to reach the palace as well.

But before he can go anywhere Hotsuma will have many enemies to defeat.

Hotsuma has the ability to Walk, Run, Jump, Wall Run and lock on a specific enemy. Plus he can Stealth Dash where he can move from one place to the other in a flash, it is quite fun to see actually.

To kill his enemy Hotsuma carries a sword called Akujiki. He also has other weapons like Ninja Daggers called Shuriken that he can throw or paralyze his enemy with. Hotsuma can also use ninja magic called Ninjutsu. There are 3 types Ka' en, Kamaitachi and Raijin, each are very powerful and will inflict a lot of damage but they have limited usage.

Shinobi is not an easy game because you are constantly under attack or facing very hard Boss plus there are no checkpoint so you always have to restart the entire level when you die.

Plus the camera could be done much better your limited and awkward view will make the game even harder.

The control are fast but repetitive and sometimes when you have killed many enemies at once the character will like stop frozen for a few seconds but everything else keep going so it is frustrating since the enemy can approach you but you can not move at all to prepare yourself to fight.

Hotsuma is nicely design, he has a red scarf that will fly into the wind the entire game.

Shinobi will offer you many challenge since it is an hard game to complete but if you are up to the challenge and like ninja game you might like this one.
