Full of features, packed with great gamplay and many missions.
This is a sure winner!

Eidos, the makers of the revolutionary Tomb Raider series, has brought us yet another great title. Commandos is one of the first of its kind, and defiantly the first of its quality, in its kind.

Commandos is a 3rd person perspective action/strategy game. You are given a handful of commandos, and given a task to accomplish using them. Each commando each has separate specialties and traits. For example, the Marine is the only one who can use boats, and scuba dive, while the Demolitions Expert is the only one who can can destroy large targets. The specialties are unique to that person, so if you loose him, you loose his capabilities, which might be required to complete the mission.

The interface is simple enough, and the addition of hot keys are very helpful. The interface is interesting and easy to use, which includes symbols to the side of the screen that you can click to use, such as the Colt .45, Knife, and other things that the selected person is carrying. To de-select the current inventory item (so you don't accidentally do something like fire your gun.. :), you simply right click the mouse on the main action screen.

As for graphics....., Its by Eidos... need I say more? In other words, they're GREAT! (I suddenly feel like Tony the Tiger =) The graphics are colorful, and have depth.

The environments are very detailed, including appropriate sounds and animation for objects. My only complaint is that there is no support for hardware acceleration. Not that it runs slow... It'd just be nice to add some more graphical effects.

One of the best parts of this game, is its AI, or Artificial Intelligence. The enemy AI is fairly smart. If you kill someone, and you leave the body behind, they'll call for the alarm, and guards will pour out of their barracks to patrol the area. Also, the enemies have a field of view, that you can observe. This means you can wait until their not looking, and sneak up on them with a knife. Just don't make too much noise on your approach, or they'll turn around and hose you down.

Several more features are included such as the ability to drive trucks, use boats, fly planes, use explosives, and more cool stuff. Also included is 20 missions covering several of the operational areas in World War II, including North Africa and Europe. You'll have control over 6 different commandos, and as stated before, all are unique. Not to mention 25 accurately modeled weapons and explosives, and multiplayer capabilities via MPlayer, Internet, or LAN connections. This is a great game, and I suggest it to anyone with any interest in strategy/tactics or WWII special forces combat. Full of features, packed with great gamplay and many missions.
This is a sure winner!
