The origins of chess are celebrated in a legion of romantic legends. Although novel in our time, four-way chess was once the format played in India. In fact, the division into four suits in a modern deck of playing cards has its' origins from four-handed chess. A popular game in the Middle Ages, four-handed chess was dubbed "The Royal Game" - a description later adopted by chess as we see it today. Chess, the game of intellect, skill and strategy has been enjoyed by school children and sophisticated professionals alike for more than 4000 years. Originally a table-top depiction of war, chess has evolved into an art form - rooted in science and executed with finesse and grace. And now, we've taken the game one step further. Presenting DOUBLES CHESS - The chess game for partners.

With DOUBLES CHESS you can play the Royal Game of the Middle Ages on a state-of-the-art chessboard. DOUBLES CHESS is a great way to introduce new players to the game and an exciting and challenging format for more advanced aficionados.

Partners sit opposite each other forming "allied armies." Each player begins with 16 pieces. Teams coordinate their strategies, plan their attack, and battle it out on the board until their opponents' last king is checkmated. A single player can control both sides of a team or players can mix and match their individual strengths, making for an exciting variety of player combinations and playing strategies.

International Grandmaster and Chess Hall of Famer Larry Evans calls DOUBLES CHESS, "the best four-handed version I have ever seen." Evans tutored Bobby Fischer from 1968 to 1972, guiding Fischer to his capturing of the World Crown in 1972. Evans won the USA National Championship five times, the USA OPEN four times, and was a member or captain of nine Olympic teams, including a gold medal team.
